Asheville Foliage Update – Oct 5, 2014
A warm September delayed the peak of our Fall colors, but a recent cold snap has leaves turning brighter day by day. If you are coming to Asheville over the next week here is what you can expect:
Above 5,000′ – Popular areas like Graveyard Fields, Black Balsam, Shining Rock Wilderness and the higher parkway elevations should be beautiful over the next two weeks. On October 5 trees around Graveyard Fields, especially the Maples, were showing beautiful colors, but expect the intensity to greatly improve by October 15.
3,000 – 5000′ – While there is some color on the ridge tops and shady groves there is not much vibrancy in this range. The recent cold temperatures should change the leaves quickly, but don’t expect bright orange, reds and yellows yet.
Asheville-area – It’s the Maples’ bright red leaves leading the way around town. Other leaves are still mostly green, with a hint of color starting to show on the tips. Halloween week in downtown Asheville should be beautiful.
